Patience Isn’t What Happens After the Wait. It’s What Happens Inside It.

July 22, 2026

I was at the park this morning praying, and my mind kept circling back to one thing. Patience.
We talk about patience a lot as believers. It shows up on every list of the fruit of the Spirit, and most of us have prayed for more of it at some point. But I think we forget what patience actually requires of us.

It’s not something God just hands you one day. It’s something He produces in you, slowly, while you’re still in the middle of the hard thing. Still waiting on the answer. Still waiting on the shift that hasn’t come yet.

What “Do Not Grow Weary” Really Means

There’s a verse that tells us not to grow weary in doing good, because in due season we’ll reap a harvest if we don’t give up. For a long time I think I read that as a verse about endurance alone. Just keep going. Don’t quit.

But I’ve come to believe it’s deeper than that.

I think it’s actually telling us this. When you’re in the middle of your stress, your pain, your trial, God is perfecting your faith right there. He’s producing patience in you while everything around you stays exactly the same. While the answer hasn’t come. While the situation hasn’t shifted.

The waiting isn’t empty space between you and the breakthrough. It’s the place where the actual work is happening.

The Part Nobody Tells You About Waiting

Here’s what I’ve found to be true, over and over, in my own life as a wife, a mom of four, a homeschooler, and someone building businesses while trying to stay rooted in the Lord through all of it.

Most of the time, we grow. We find a peace and a joy in the waiting itself that ends up giving us more than the outcome we were originally praying for ever could.

Think about that for a second. The thing you’re asking God to change, the answer you’re holding your breath for, isn’t actually the prize. The prize is who you become while you wait for it.

By the time you reach the joy, by the time you reach the peace, patience has already finished its work in you.

Why This Matters So Much for Entrepreneurs and Moms in the Waiting Season

If you’re building something right now, a business, a ministry, a home, a family rhythm that actually works, you already know what it feels like to wait on things you can’t control. Clients who haven’t said yes yet. Doors that haven’t opened. Seasons that feel stuck even when you’re doing everything right.
It’s tempting to treat the waiting like a problem to solve or a delay to push through as fast as possible.

But what if the waiting is actually where God is doing His best work in you? What if rushing past it would mean missing the very thing He’s trying to produce?

This is a huge part of what I love walking through with the women I coach. So much of entrepreneurship and motherhood asks us to sit in seasons we didn’t choose and can’t speed up. Learning how to actually grow there, instead of just gritting your teeth and surviving it, changes everything about how you lead, how you parent, and how you build.

If you’re in a season of waiting right now, whether it’s in your business, your faith, or your home, and you want someone to walk alongside you while you grow through it instead of just white knuckling your way to the other side, I’d love to talk with you. You can connect with me here and we can talk through what coaching together could look like.

And if this is the kind of conversation you want more of in your everyday life, come listen to Laughing Over Tomorrow. The podcast is live now, and this week’s episode picks up right where this post leaves off, more on waiting well, growing in the middle of it, and trusting God with what you can’t control yet.
